There are routines on Magnolia Lane that bring comfort. Reliable patterns. Predictable behavior. Then there is Mr. Jenkins.
We first noted activity early this morning. Not unusual in itself, as Mr. Jenkins has demonstrated a commitment to his lawn that borders on professional. What was unusual… was the timing.
“He was just out here,” Ethel said.
Records indicate that Mr. Jenkins completed a full mowing cycle less than two days ago. The grass has not had sufficient time to require this level of attention.
And yet. There he was. Mower engaged. Path consistent. Focus unwavering.
“Now listen,” Gladys said, “I respect a man who takes pride in his property. But at some point, you’re just cutting the same grass twice.”
The pattern continued. Straight lines. Turn. Repeat. No deviation. No hesitation.
Of note: The Lawn Service Crew has not been present this week, which may have contributed to what Gladys has labeled “self-directed overperformance.”
The noise level remained within acceptable daytime parameters, though frequency is becoming a concern.
“It’s not the volume,” Ethel said. “It’s the commitment.”
The Walker passed during operations and executed a proper wave. Mr. Jenkins did not immediately respond, likely due to concentration, though a delayed acknowledgment was observed.
This has been noted but not penalized.

Porch Verdict
“There’s pride,” Gladys said.
Ethel nodded.
“And then there’s whatever this is.”
