welcome to a Porch on Magnolia Lane

Meet the Ladies

Gladys is the louder of the two and sees herself as the unofficial authority of Magnolia Lane.

A proud Georgia Bulldogs fan, she firmly believes that most of life’s problems could be solved with football, proper snacks, and a little neighborhood pride. On game days she is known to wear red and remind everyone within earshot that the Bulldogs are playing.

Gladys also believes the porch is a place of community, conversation, and observation. She greets most neighbors warmly, approves of well-maintained lawns, and respects anyone who understands the importance of pimento cheese.

Her favorite phrase is usually: “Now listen…”

Ethel is quieter but far more skeptical.

She does not understand football, refuses to support unnecessary yelling over sports, and spends much of the fall season reminding Gladys that grown men chasing a ball is not a personality.

Ethel prefers quiet afternoons, a tall glass of sweet tea, and a good book. She is also the most observant of the two and has an excellent memory when it comes to suspicious vehicles, repeat delivery drivers, and neighbors who forget to bring their trash cans back up the driveway.

While Gladys tends to trust people easily, Ethel believes careful observation is always necessary.

Just in case.

The Story Behind Gladys & Ethel

Gladys and Ethel didn’t exactly set out to become the unofficial neighborhood watch of Magnolia Lane. They were simply placed on a porch. Like many porch geese before them.

At first, they were just part of the scenery. Decorative. Quiet. But it didn’t take long for personalities to emerge. Gladys was the first. Ethel followed shortly after.

While Gladys focused on enthusiasm, Ethel focused on accuracy.
And together, they realized something. No one else was paying enough attention. Packages were being delivered at all hours. Lawns were being mowed more often than necessary. A blue car had begun driving slowly past the house.

And someone needed to keep track of it all. So they did. From their carefully chosen position on the porch, Gladys and Ethel began documenting life on Magnolia Lane.

What started as quiet observation turned into full porch reports, ongoing investigations, and a growing understanding of the neighborhood and its residents.

They are the watchers of Magnolia Lane.
And they are always on duty.

The Porch Rules

Living on Magnolia Lane means understanding a few simple expectations.

Wave when you pass the porch
The Geese
Lawn mowing before 8 AM will be judged
Seasonal decorations are welcome but may be discussed
Suspicious behavior will be noticed

Failure to follow these rules may result in porch gossip.
